Marlene & Craig welcome you to explore New Zealand North Island fly fishing rivers. Most introductions to fly fishing begin from when Dad took the young lad fishing but in Marlene’s case the introduction was typically Craig’s idea of a date, most guys would ask a girl out for a coffee but Craig opted to give Marlene lessons on how to fly fish. Now Craig’s 35 and Marlene’s 25 years fly fishing knowledge and experiences has led them to both guide clients on Hawke’s Bay’s premier wilderness rivers.
Marlene began One Cast Adventures eleven years ago with the support of husband Craig who has 20 years of service with the New Zealand police as a search and rescue member and instructor in Hawke's Bay. Marlene is credited with teaching fly fishing tuition and river safety in schools which adds to the working skill and safety practices the guiding work entails.
In Hawke's Bay, New Zealand you couldn't meet a more down to earth fly fishing couple, a guiding couple who team up to provide qaulity New Zealand fly fishing  experiences.
New Zealanders and Global friends  have increased their fly fishing skill level, gained life time memories of trout adrenalin rushes, sipped on wine and laughed till the sun went down, felt gratified by the secluded back country fishing wilderness and solitude experience, become cultured in kiwi rugby and warmed to the spirited Maori heritage that Marlene shares about her culture.
Come and join us in Puketitiri, Hawkes Bay, New Zealand.

NEW ZEALAND ONE CAST FLY FISHING RECOMMENDATIONS
ITO AND IWAMI SAN OF JAPANThe story of Maori culture attracted our interest, and we are sure that all your advice with fishing certainly raised our skill. We must challenge to fly fish at New Zealand, Napier again!!!!

MIKE CHIMENTI - Thermopolis, Wyoming USA. In December of 2008 I had a chance to go to the South Pacific. I started to make arangnments in August of 2008. I had always wanted to go to the North Island of New Zealand to fly fish and now was the time. I had no idea who to contact about such a trip so I got on the computer and typed the words Fly fishing New Zealand. The names of several guides came up on the computer. I sent out an e-mail to all whose name appeared explaining what I was looking for in accommodation as well as how long I had to spend fishing. I got an immediate response from Marlene Skeet, other email responses started to trickle in over the next several months. It was like they were testing me to see if I was in fact planning a trip. Marlene never questioned, she was the first to respond and continued to comunicate with me even though I had not yet made up my mind with whom or where I would make a booking. I booked with Marlene. Every day we went fishing I caught fish. I was not used to the extreme clear water so I had some trouble getting used to this, however I caught and landed several fish that were around the 5 pound range. I hooked several that were much larger then these, I enjoyed the hook ups but was unable to land any of these fish due to my own excitement anda bit of a slow response. I had a tremendous time, the accommodation was outstanding and the fly fishing experience indescribeable. To make it short I caught a lot of big fish and had a wonderful time. I plan to return in the next couple of years for a rerun.

STEPHEN and CAROLYN DUDER - United Kingdom Feb 09 The days we spent with you were the highlight of our New Zealand, North Island fly fishing trip. You and Craig were the perfect guides and hosts: I was able to fish all the time with Craig whilst knowing you were entertaining Carolyn by doing a bit of fishing but also showing her the local sights and giving a unique insight into Maori culture. The fly fishing was awesome! Craig knew the 'hot spots' and had the patience to instruct me on the techniques of dry fly fishing in clear, fast flowing river water. The size and strength of those wild brown and rainbow trout which live up in the mountain rivers meant that we had a real fight on our hands when we had a strike. The fish we caught were in beautiful condition and it was great to release them back into the wild. I learnt a lot from Craig about casting and stalking but the most exciting part about him was his respect for the fish, passion for nature and the environment.

IAN SMITH - N.S.W. Australia 7th January 09So you are thinking of going Trout fishing in the North Island of New Zealand? Excellent idea. Also thinking of using the services of a guide. An equally good idea. I can vouch for these experiences, having just returned from N.Z. and done both. Well look no further.  The guiding, hospitality and amiability of Marlene and Craig is as good as it gets. I was accompanied by Marlene, who loves to get down and wet, right there with you, and claps with delight every time you get a hookup.. now I ask you, when was the last time you got applause for latching onto a Trout?... Marlene gives constant, very useful information, timely advice re rod work and steady encouragement.. and what's more, remains totally amiable. Now, if like me you are thinking, "do I really need a guide, after all I've been fishing for many years, albeit saltwater " .I can assure, you will rapidly increase your expertise, and so do yourself a huge favour, if you spend time out on the water with Marlene. We also stayed at the Skeet Lodge overnight, enjoyed a fine home cooked meal by Craig, and some almost believable fishing stories. If Craig guides as good as he cooks, then you will certainly get your monies worth! Also Marlene's Chocolate pudding gets a very favourable mention. So if you want to enjoy the experience of getting into the beautiful Trout back country of New Zealand with some really authenticTrout savvy and lovely Kiwis then the skeet family have it all covered.

.HONEY MOON COUPLE / YOKO and HIROKI KOJIMA - Feb 09 Thanks to you, Yoko has very enjoyed her holiday in New Zealand. She is talking about you and her activities that she experienced with you every night. She looks very happy.Unfortunately, the weather was not good for fishing, but I could still catch some beautiful fish owing to Craig. I think that everything is written in the river, for example beauty, life, death and crime, I felt it strongly in the fishing river. We appreciate you that we can get a lot of great memories that never forget.

ALUN BARTSCH-Australia producer/writer-MAGO FILMS I would have no hesitation in recommending Marlene to anyone for her knowledge,  professionalism and her genuine friendly nature which is encouraging and unfussed at all times.

ROB STAPLES - Australia I would really like to thank you, Craig and Sean for welcoming me into your home and making me feel "so at home" The warmth of your company were very much apprieciated as was your hospitality and cooking. As for the fishing I will have memories that last forever. I learnt so much from you and Craig. The short lesson was for me the difference between confidently hooking, playing and landing a big leaping and fighting and breaking mid battle. The picture on your web is testament to that fact that rainbow was so muchfun and such a memorable experience. I plan to do it all again

IAN JONES-Scottish Commonwealth Captain
We are extremely grateful to you and Craig for all the guidance and direction you set us at the beginning of our New Zealand fly fishing adventure which culminated in the success we had in the Commonwealth Championships. Your expert advice and tuition undoubtedly contributed to our success as we all used what we had learnt from you in our approach and understanding of catching the trout of the Tuki Tuki..

New Zealand flyfishing - Giant Eel attacking a big trout

Mitsuo goes through alot of shaking and screaming before capturing the big eel attacking his trout.
(The song Japanesey replaces his histeria voice)

The camera was put down after the 2 minute drama and the trout was saved and released. This Japanese angler thought it was a rare moment. As guides in New Zealand it is not uncommon for eels to eat or chase trout, if your lucky enough to experience an actual attack then yes the  moment is rare. The photo on this home page of the eel face to face with trout is a rare moment of the same situation, the exception is for the first time in my 25 years of fly fishing this eel flared its cheeks out like gobstopper cheeks, hissed, yes hissed and then made the final attack. Gladly the trout was saved by me kicking the eel away.
