STYLE OF FISHING IN NEW ZEALAND

Site fishing first then making that vital cast in all small streams. Streams have water clarity that surpasses many world fisheries. Big river fishing hosts enormous trophy trout and site fishing will occur first then blind fishing to where your guide knows where the trout are laying in the deeper parts.
River conditions are normally excellent throughout the whole season as the watershed supports a high number fishing area's but travel outside the district may occur if conditions change. Your guides will make the appropriate choices.

 ♦ BOOKING CONDITIONS

Please book your New Zealand fly fishing trip well in advance for your travel and book as many days as you can. Booking trips of a life time for 2 days can be difficult to achieve if weather conditions do not permit. It’s also good to have a day to adjust to the New Zealand’s style of fishing. Book early

≈≈ MONTHLY FLY FISHING CALENDAR ≈≈

October:Season opens for all small streams. Temperatures are cool with minimal dry fly activity. Angler pressure has been nil for 6months so trout will take the nymph readily.

Jan,Feb,March: Hottest months, lowering of river levels with dry fly fishing is at its best.

November:Summer temperatures are rising, river levels begin to lower from high winter rain with nymphs, wet line streamers the all rounders.  Dry fly activity increases but wind may prevent the delicate delivery of the fly.

April:May: River levels still low with the warmer tempertures dropping. Fly fishing is still very productive with nymph the all rounder.

December:The holiday season begins for 6 weeks. Nymph and dry fly are the all rounders.

June: Small streams close for spawning, winter season upon us. River levels are higher with wet fly or nymph producing catches.

    September /8/09 spawning colours
